26 THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN

DORMITORY REGULATIONS

In accordance with an act of the Legislature of 19138, preference in
the assignment of rooms in these halls is given to residents of the state of
Wisconsin. When assignments are made for the following year, students
living at one of the halls will be given preference over those who have not
had such residence. Certain quotas by classes (freshman, sophomore, etc.)
have been established; these are maintained until July 15, after which date
all unassigned applicants constitute the general waiting list in order of
deposit.

The halls and dining rooms are closed during the Christmas recess;
during the spring recess the halls are open but the dining rooms are closed.
University regulations require that board and room be paid in advance,
board by the quarter and room by the semester.

Applications for rooms will not be received until April 1; these should
be sent to the Bursar of the University, together with a deposit of $10 and
a statement of the student’s choice of dormitory, the permanent home ad-
dress, and an indication of the class he will enter. Room assignments will
be made beginning May 1.

Written acceptance of assigned rooms for the year must be received
by the Department of Dormitories and Commons not later than Septem-
ber 1 or, for the second semester, January 8, or the deposit will be for-
feited and the room reassigned. Those accepting rooms must take posses-
sion by 8 a. m. of the last registration day of the first semester, or the
corresponding date of the second semester, or forfeit their deposit and
room, unless written notification of late arrival is received by the depart-
ment before that time and the room and board bill for the period is paid
in advance. When a person remains on the waiting list after September
1, or January 8 in case of the second semester, the deposit will be forfeited
if an assignment is made before the beginning of classes and is not ac-
cepted or rejected promptly.

After a room has been assigned and accepted, a refund of the deposit
is made only when the student has fulfilled his term of residence as indi-
cated on the lease form. The deposit will then be refunded as promptly
as practicable, providing the student has met all obligations to the depart-
ment—that is, paid all bills, left all equipment in the room intact, and
turned in his key. If a student withdraws from the dormitory during the
year for any reason, his deposit will be forfeited. Unassigned depositors
may claim a refund at any time.

All rooms are assigned for the entire academic year and the student
will be held for the rent of the room for the year, or until it is filled from
the waiting list. Students withdrawing must make satisfactory arrange-
ments with the Department of Dormitories and Commons in advance.

Rooms will be ready for occupancy in September at 8 a. m. on the
Wednesday preceding the beginning of instruction. Baggage marked with
hall and room number will be received beginning the same day.

Requests for information regarding rooms, board, rates, assignments,
and refunds should be addressed to the Department of Dormitories and
Commons.
