FirsTt-YEAR HARMONY. Yr; 3 cr. This course provides the student
with a working knowledge of the chord material up to the dominant
seventh. Much attention is given during the first semester to such
fundamentals of music theory as key signatures, major and minor
scales, intervals, triads, and elementary chord connection. From the
first, the material of the course is used as a basis for keyboard har-
mony. All students are required to harmonize melodies and to trans-
pose at the keyboard. The harmonizing of soprano melodies and the
composition of original examples form a large part of the work of the
second semester. 8, 9, or 1:30 MWF. Miss Eastman, Mr. Jones,

ForRM AND ANALYSIS. Yr; 2cr. Prerequisites: Music 11 and junior
standing. The study of the logic, structure, and architecture of
music as exemplified in the works of the masters. 11 MF. Miss Mar.

SECOND-YEAR HARMONY. Yr; 8 cr. Prerequisite: Music 1. 9 or

History oF Music. Yr; 2cr. An historical survey of the growth of
music to the present day. A student of this course should acquire a
certain critical sense as to the musical values, a keener sense of dis-
crimination and taste, and the power to place a given piece of music
in its historical period. 1:30 TT. Miss Mar.

HISTORY OF PUBLIC SCHOOL Music. I; 2 cr. A comprehensive study
of the development of public school music. 11 TT. Mr. Gordon.

PIANO PEpAGcoGy. I; 2 cr. An intensive analysis of technical studies
and piano literature with reference to their use as teaching material
in private and class work. Evaluation of various means of presenta-
tion. Discussion of pedagogical theories of the past and present.
Open only to juniors and seniors in the School of Music. Prerequi-

APPLIED PIANO PEDAGOGY. II; 2 cr. Prerequisite: Music 36. Ac-
tual private and class teaching under supervision. Lesson plans and

INTRODUCTORY METHODS IN PUBLIC SCHOOL Music. Yr; 2 cr. Selec-
tion and presentation of material; consideration of the child voice;
problems of appreciation; and other aspects throughout the grades.
