• King Savang Vatthana paying his respects to Buddhist monks at the Sam Thong airstrip, along with Queen Khamphoui, Gen. Vang Pao (Vaj Pov) (Commander, Military Region II; red tassels), Col. Phan Siharat (white suit), Chao Saykham Southakakoumane (Governor, Xieng Khouang Province; black suit, a Phuan), and Prime Minister Souvanna Phouma (standing; beige suit). Sam Thong was the USAID refugee operations center for northeastern Laos from 1962 until its fall on March 20, 1970.
