pO)SSlOLE. WHERE NATURAL AND TOPOGRAPHICAL FEATURES THAT INTERCEPT 
THE AIR CURPFENTS AND PREVENT DRIFTING ARE ASSENT, STUDIES MUST GE 
MADE OF THE SECTIONS SUCJECT TO DRIFTING AND ARTIFICIAL STRUCTURES 
ERECTED. STRUCTURES SHOULD 3E ERECTED IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO FORM 
EDDIES ON THE WINDWARD SIDE OF THE SECTION OF ROAD TO BE PROTECTED 
AND AT A SUFFICIENT DISTANCE AWAY TO PERMIT THE SLOWING SNOW TO BE 
DEPOSITED CETWEEN THE STRUCTURES AND THE ROAD. SUCH STRUCTURES 
ARE TERMED SNOW FENCES. SNOW FENCES OF ONE KIND OR ANOTHER ARE 
USED IN ALL SECTIONS WHERE SNOW DRIFTING IS PREVALENT AND WITHOUT 
EXCEPTION THIS METHOD OF PREVENTION IS FAVORABLY REPORTED. 
SNC FALL, OVER NEARLY ALL OF THE EASTERN UNITED STATES, IS 
GENERALLY ACCOMPANIED aY WINDS FROM THE NORTHEAST. THERE ARE, 
HOWEVER, EXCEPTIONS, ESPECIALLY IN THE A-PALACHIAN REGIONS AND CLOSE 
TO THE GREAT LAKES. FOR VARIOUS LOCALITIES, THE DIRECTION OF THE
