Dear Hr. Leopold:
Many t.anks for sending me a copy of the announcement of the
survey which you will direct. ditx regad to our publications on
fruit bearing shrubs, I may say taat they were mae without particular
reference to gane birds, but give t-e fruitig seasons and naies of
shrubs knon to be of value in producing food for wild birds according
to the sections of the couutry to 'hiic they are adapted. Four
bulletins of this type have already been issued ald we are endng you
a copy of each of them under separate cover.
With regard to the status o-f the barn owl as vermin", I nuct
say tiat this s r cies aoes occasionally prey upon birds and that on
a
g are fam with Ilenty of young ga irds available it b'ight be
tempted
to depart fro its usual irroproable food -abits. I s :o-l -
wnt
of c/74
proof of damage being done by an indiviiual species, however, before
approving t e killing of the bird.
Very truly yours,
