• This small snapshot taken from the southwest corner of South Eighth and Franklin Streets in Manitowoc, looking east, shows three buses parked in front of the Household Finance Corporation building at 722 Franklin Street. Also visible are the J. J. Stangel Hardware Company Automotive Department building at 716 Franklin Street and Lakeside Packing Company buildings farther east on the north side of Franklin Street. The "Bus Station Building" was located around the corner from Household Finance at 837 S. Eighth Street. During the World War II years, at least four bus companies operated out of the bus station, including Lake & Bay View Bus Line, Safe Way Motor Coach Lines, Lake Shore Transportation Co., and Green Bay Stages. The picture's title is lettered on the back of the snapshot.
• Gasoline rationing in Manitowoc started December 1, 1942. A headline in the December 1, 1942 Manitowoc newspaper announced "Bus and cab business booms as rationing of gasoline gets started."
