Betsy Whyte of Montrose, Angus, tells a droll story, "The Becht (or the Hen) in the Barrow." As she explains, the story can be told in two ways: either with a hen as a leading character, or, in a burlesque fashion, with a woman's private parts as the leading character. The story was told at a house in St. Andrews, Fife, where John Niles and his research team were staying in the summer of 1988. Also present on this occasion were Duncan and Linda Williamson and Betsy's husband Bryce.
