Attached hereto are transcripts of the essential parts of the appointment
records of Asesistant District Foresters Aldo Leopold and Raymond E. Marsh
of District 3. 
From this you will see that Raymond E. Marsh 
received his probational appointment as Forest Assistant at $1200 July 1,
1910. Leopold received his permanent appointment as Forest Assistant at the
same salary on the same date. However, Leopold then had to his credit 2-1/2
months service as a Forest Guard at $900 on the Cabinet National Forest and
a year's service as Forest Assistant probational at $1000 per annum. Marsh
was given his permanent appointment as Forest Assistant August 10, 1912.
On the same date Leopold was appointed Forest Supervisor of the Carson Forest
at a salary of $1600 per annum. He ha4l in the meanwhile been made Deputy
Supervisor at $1400 on that Forest, effective June 1, 1911. Marsh was promoted
to Deputy Supervisor of the Carson Forest at $1500 July 1, 1913. Four months
previous to this date Leopold had been promoted to a supervisorship at $1800
of the same Forest. On June 1,
