Dear Mrs. Leopolds
The many mbers of the staff of this Laboratory who knew Aldo riharad the
universal. Lhock at the untimeliaes end manner of his pasi. g. Le suspecru,
however, that he would have preferred to die as he did, swith his boots onrs,
fighting to save from destraotion the habitat, of the wild life he loved,
than to have had old age destroy his vsefulnesa and then lot him wither away
on the
Sidolines.
We all admired Aldo for his pioneriag apiriti his aggressivonessp and his
loadership in new fields. He am a crusader and h sas accompliahed a great
deal towards making wild life aanagement a acienae and a profasion and not
Jut a hobby for misinformed sentizentalists. The hunters# the fishermen,
the reareationists, and the oonservationists all owe him a debt of gratitude
and I am mare many of them will be publiciy admitting it for a long time
to oae.
I regret that we are oo helpleo at a tiate like thiv but. I want you and
your family to know that you have the deep sympathy of m7slf and the staff
of this Laboratory in your baruaveaent.
Very sincerely youra,

GEIJRG U. RUE?, Director
