Part of the historic relief model collection held by the University of Wisconsin system, this digitized collection contains 19 relief maps that are housed and displayed throughout the Science Hall building on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus. These pieces provide intricate visualizations of geographical and cartographic data gathered during the late 19th and early 20th century. The majority of these relief maps were modeled by Edwin E. Howell, while other fabricators include Ernest H. J. Lorenz and G. K. Gilbert.
An additional detailed history of these maps can be found in A wilderness of rocks: The impact of relief models on data science by Melanie Schleeter McCalmont.
