Above: The Beanery Restaurant opened in 1914 as the county's first 24-hour-a-day
restaurant. It was a colorful
place that served railroaders, locals and tourists until it was closed by
state health officials in 1950. Note the illegal
slot machine and the legal gumball machine. Behind the counter in 1929 are
Edith House, Gladys Marsh and Mary
Hruby with customer Joe Jamieson. Below: The first city of Adams library
began life as a rail car in the 1860s.
Adams library boosters moved it to Grant and Goggin Street and started circulating
books in 1930.
