Photo of the Frances Willard School House which was used from 1853-1920. Now owned by the Rock County Historical Society, it is located at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds in Janesville. Frances Willard, 1839-1898, was born in Churchill, New York, but spent her childhood on the Willard family farm on South River Road near Janesville, Wisconsin: She taught at the one-room school house named after her in 1858. She went on to spend most of her adult life in Evanston, Illinois, working as the leader of the National Women's Christian Temperance Union and, later, the World's Women's Christian Temperance Union.
