Summary

• The Chinese and Japanese navies are depicted engaging in a fierce battle in Weihai Bay. Brilliant new western red and blue ink made this scene strikingly vivid. In the center, three Japanese ships engage a black Chinese battleship. In the background, another Chinese ship burns in the aftermath of a skirmish.
• Original woodblock print of triptych Nishikie.
• Sino-Japanese War (Nissin Sensō) nishikie are the woodcut prints published in real time during that War in 1894 and 1895. Many of these prints were used as breaking news of the war and included a brief note of the battle. Topics were the progress of the war, victory and battle scenes. This particular print has only the title and no explanation of the scene.
