Dear Vr. Leopold:
I plan to return to "isconsin to pick up what I can
on grain-field and second-crop hay nesting, about August I. If we can
lick part or all of the 'Hun paper at that time so much the better,
'eanwhile here Is an idea for your consideration.
YouYeatter and myself must have something of a corner
on Run Informationin this country. Perhaps Hicks or someone else has
been holding out on us and also has a good supply of data on the sub-
jeet. At any rate It would be nice In my opinionto have all 1un inform-
ation up to date and in one place I'im a great one to say that) and
then see If this mass of data has got us anywhere In mnna ing the species.

"Ter. Is the suggestionz that sometime within the next
5 or T0 yeariou,Yeatter and myself (and perhaps RowanHioks or others)
publish a thorbugh nacount of the "unthe study region being the Central

Statesjthe entire U.S.,qr the entire N, America depending on a number
of things. This species should be satisfactory to use as as mod& which

would incorporate the principals of game management since 3toddard's
Bob-white le. the newest things In nesting studies, survival value of
wilds vs. artificial, etc. -e might even arrive at the concluslon that
"uns cannot be managed in this country. uch Information,it senms to
me,
would be just as Important as elaborate but Impractical management plans#

Yeatter and I have already planned o the extent of set-
ting up three Nun study areas In this state-one In the best 9u, range at

present; one which is coming up fast ;and one where there are ho Huns
at present but which looks like "un country to us. -e also hope to con-

tinue observations (mainly census)In Wisconsln, Ichtpn and to go back
to Indiana and perhrps Ohio where Yeatter has census figures from his
"ichian studies, "e have been assured complete cooporation from
the State
game department in getting artificial birds for plantingetc.
Thle you may find it impos Able to contribute much time
in field work your su-gestIons,e perience with extensive game surveyand
famlliarlty with the literature and %uropean partridge range~ls just what

is neede to fill out such a study. B3e seeing you soon.
