hands, and the Priest with them, marching by,--and then
came all the women and rxirls--all sizes and ages. The
men and boys all let their hair grow long this summer,
way down to their shoulders,--some of them have curls,
and look very peculiar. They wear no wigs in the Passion
Play and wear their hair long. I suppose it looks more
picturesque. After the people marched past we fell into
a doze but were awaked by the Autos beginning to bring
people to town for to-morrow. Finally we thought we
would give up the idea of a morning nap! and Nan
announced she "thought she smelled the bean-juice boil-
ing" and we had "better get up." She also thought she'd
"take her morning, bath by 'absent treatment' to-day,"
but she did wash her face and hands, and so did I! and
breakfast wasn't so bad after all, for they gave us some
fresh eggs, and rolls and coffee. All that pack of
cows with bells on their necks and no cream! What do
you suppose they do with it all? They can't surelj use
it all for butter, but the honest fact is, we never
see a bit of cream on the table over here.
