  • This is a condensation of lectures and lessons recorded at the 1976 Summer Institute at the University of WI.--Stevens Point. Part II: Dr. Suzuki discusses the meaning of various tempo markings using examples from Books 1 and 2. Tempo markings are not only indications of speed but also character. Dr. Suzuki discusses several terms, such as allegretto and adagio, and demonstrates their implications for character with pieces from Books 1 and 2. Bow speed and distribution are important factors in conveying character. Dr. Suzuki teaches energetic and free bow motion to give the music life.
