Summary
Beverly Buhr was born on May 22, 1953 in Clintonville, WI. She grew up in Marion, WI with two older siblings and one younger sibling. In 1971, Beverly moved to Madison, WI in order to attend the University of Wisconsin. She attained her bachelor's degree in Medical Microbiology in 1975. She returned to the University to attain a master's degree in Exercise Physiology. In particular, she studied the effects of long distance running on blood content. Upon receiving her master's degree, Beverly began training to become a firefighter. She graduated from her firefighter training in 1980, along with 10 other women. She worked in the Madison Fire Department for 19 years before returning to the University once again, where she attained a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing. In 1988, she gave birth to a daughter who she raised as a single mother until meeting her partner. She worked as a registered nurse until 2005 and as a nurse practitioner until 2013. Currently, Beverly is a self-described activist involved with programs such as Young, Black, and Gifted and MOSES. She also studies and teaches yoga and meditation.
