[Manitowoc, Wisconsin]: Manitowoc Vocational School
Summary
Starting in 1943, the Manitowoc Vocational School offered summer classes under the direction of Mrs. Emma Anderson to help community women learn to sew and to repair and adapt clothing as part of the wartime conservation effort. Women unable to enroll in formal classes could get individual help from the school in making over or planning a garment. These photographs published in the Manitowoc Vocational School paper "The Citizen-ship", May 19, 1944, show how one Manitowoc woman transformed a man's coat into a stylish coat for herself.
