Summary

• The Henderson-Hoyt department store in Manitowoc, Wisconsin used one of its large display windows to promote the sale of war bonds and stamps in 1942. Under a banner reading "Let’s keep the Flag Flying," a large image of a 48 star United States flag fills the window. At the front, one poster urges "Buy U.S. war bonds & stamps now!" and another features a quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt ending "…Stamp out our enemies with stamps / Blast ‘em with bonds! We can / We will / We must." The Henderson-Hoyt store was located at 2-10 North Eighth Street. This window display was created by Henderson-Hoyt employee Leo Chadek. Many other Manitowoc stores also set up patriotic displays like this throughout the war years.
