• Fashions typical of the 1940s are illustrated in this 8" x 10" photograph taken at the launching of the wooden minesweeper "YMS-110" at the Burger Boat Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on July 16, 1942. Nine women and one young boy pose on a christening stand platform near the minesweeper, which was one of 43 vessels built for the Navy and Army by the Burger Boat Company during World War II. Two of the women hold guest passes for the launch. Penciled notes on the back of the photograph identify most of the people pictured. The young woman holding a bouquet of flowers is Charlotte Burger, who as sponsor christened the YMS-110. Next to her, fourth from the right, is her twin sister, Shirley Burger. Others left to right are Caroline Burger, unknown, unknown, Mrs. George Burger and young boy, Mrs. Walter Burger, and Mrs. Henry Burger. The three women on the far right are not identified.
