including paternity actions and the termination of parental rights. Staff
of the division are cur-
rently able to provide representation statewide in approximately 68% of these
cases. Private
attorneys represent indigent clients in the remaining cases.
  The Administrative Unit is responsible for providing staff support services
in areas such as
personnel, budget preparation, the agency's case management system, fiscal
analysis, processing
of payments for the private bar, and purchasing.
  Interagency Relationships: The Office of the State Public Defender cooperates
with other state
agencies, including the Department of Administration, Department of Justice,
Department of
Health and Social Services, Department of Employment Relations and the University
of Wis-
consin Law School and School of Social Work. In addition, the public defender
(or designee) sits
on the Judicial Council and the Sentencing Commission. The office also maintains
liaisons with
the State Bar of Wisconsin and local bar associations because its cases are
handled by both staff
attorneys and private attorneys.
