   Between 1980 and January 1, 1986, 156 cities increased in population while
33 cities decreased.
Milwaukee, the only first class city, decreased by 27,854 or 4.38 percent;
among second class
cities, Green Bay had the largest increase, 6,043 or 6.87 percent, and Racine
had the largest
decrease, 4,090 or 4.77 percent; among third class cities, Eau Claire had
the largest increase,
2.804 or 5.44 percent, and Beloit had the largest decrease, 863 or 2.45 percent;
and among fourth
class cities, Fitchburg had the largest increase, 1,992 or 16.72 percent,
and South Milwaukee had
the largest decrease, 677 or 3.21 percent. For Wisconsin's villages, 89 decreased,
300 increased
and 3 showed no change in population. Plover had the largest increase, 1,727
or 32.52 percent,
and Menomonee Falls had the largest decrease, 800 or 2.87 percent.
