The clerestory in the nave was rebuilt after the 1187 fire. The stepped three openings are pointed on the sides and round arched in the center with roll moldings and hollows. It has been speculated that some Norman windows were not destroyed in the fire so they were incorporated in the new clerestory. The stiff-leaf capitals and shafts are Purbeck marble. The vaulting arises from three attached shafts with a complex Purbeck stiff-leaf capital. The added horizontal string course is also Purbeck marble.
