The book portion consists of individual sheets of paper (ca. 16 x 23 cm.) with handwritten text and illustrations, mounted on strips of red rice paper to form two folded booklets. One booklet contains two panels with instructions on how to assemble the spirit house; the other contains 21 panels, describing the artist's trip to Thailand and the Philippines. The longer booklet is mounted in a painted wooden Thai spirit house. Dimensions unassembled: 37 x 29 x 6 cm. Dimensions assembled: 55 cm. high, 37 cm. wide, 63 cm. long. The cover of the unassembled house has a sticker applied, with text in Thai. The unassembled house is wrapped in burgundy felt tied with a broad red ribbon.
Vickers: "The outside of the book is painted with acrylic paints and a coat of polyurethane. The inside paintings on the pages of the book are done with watercolors, watercolor pencils, and gouache. The pages are then glued onto the red rice paper backing with bookmakers glue. The hinges on the box were created with wood glue. The piece is a travel journal of my experiences overseas in South East Asia. The book unfolds and creates itself similar to the way my story unfolds inside the piece, each event leading to another. The experiences and information that is represented in the pages of the story is personal and precious to me; the design of the Thai spirit house is meant to "house" the story in a place that while available to the viewer also maintains a sense of preciousness and value."
