Hitler's 50th birthday, list of achievements

  • 1939
  • Hitler's fiftieth birthday on 20 April 1939 -- and his accomplishments since his appointment as Chancellor on 30 January 1933 -- are commemorated on Card 225. Eight days after his fiftieth birthday celebrations, in a speech before the Reichstag, Hitler replied to President Roosevelt's urgent message of 15 April seeking assurances that Germany is not contemplating further acts of aggression in Europe: "I have brought back to the Reich the provinces stolen from us in 1919; I have led back to their native country millions of Germans who were torn away from us and were in abject misery; I have reunited the territories that have been German throughout a thousand years of history -- and, Mr. Roosevelt, I have endeavored to attain all this without bloodshed and without bringing to my people, and so to others, the misery of war."
