This 5.5" x 3.5" card mailed to Manitowoc resident Alfred R. Williamson is an example of the Selective Service notices of classification issued by Local Board No. 1 in Manitowoc later in the war. Under the Selective Service System local boards registered, classified, and delivered draftees for induction. This card, which was mailed April 6, 1945, classified Mr. Williamson in Class I-A, "fit for active military service." This was a re-classification from his prior II-A occupational deferment issued in 1941. On November 16, 1945, Mr. Williamson was re-classified again to 4-A, an age deferment.
