Madison, Wisconsin: University Archives and Records Management Services
In her interview on October 16, 2018 with John Tortorice, Linda Newman discussed her parents' political affiliations, her work in the University of Wisconsin-Madison history department, and her friendship with George L. Mosse. Mrs. Newman talked about her parents' marriage, her mother's education at Smith College, the radical political affiliations of her parents, and the fact that they were monitored by the FBI. She also discussed attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison for graduate school, working in the history department as an undergraduate advisor, and the teaching style of George L. Mosse. Linda described the close relationships that the faculty members of the history department had with each other during the time that she worked as an advisor. This interview was conducted as part of the George L. Mosse Program in History oral history project for inclusion in the University Archives oral history collection.
