Stone.—Stone has been the major mineral commodity produced in Missouri
since 1962 in tonnage and value. Stone will remain the principal commodity
in tonnage, but lead and cement are expected to surpass stone value.
Limestone and dolomite were the prin
cipal rock resources in Missouri. In 1967, crushed and dimension limestone
and dolomite accounted for about 97 percent of the total tonnage of stone.
Other rock types were marble, sandstone, granite, and felsite.
