• This small snapshot, probably taken at night, shows a 1942 Henderson-Hoyt department store display window showcasing women’s "slack suits" on two mannequins. The background of the display is made up of magazine covers featuring images of the American flag. During World War II, as more women entered the work force and wore coveralls or pants while working in manufacturing jobs, dressier slacks and pant suits also became more popular. The Henderson-Hoyt store was located at 2-10 North Eighth Street in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. This window display was created by Henderson-Hoyt employee Leo Chadek.
