• This nighttime photograph of the “tower” of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin appeared in the December 10, 1945 issue of the Manitowoc Herald Times, shortly after floodlights illuminating the tower had been turned on again after four years of darkness during World War II. A caption beneath the picture stated “There was a Manitowoc tinge to the popular song ‘When the lights go on again all over the world’ right here at home Saturday night. For the tower of Lincoln High School, dim and dark since the start of the war, was again bathed in a flood of light.” Lighting restrictions had been imposed at the beginning of the war. Now, with the war having ended in August, the school board voted to re-light the tower until 11:00 p.m. each night. This clipping shows a date stamp and other damage.
