Ten members of a Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company softball team and their manager pose for an outdoor group portrait in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1944. The players wear two different styles of sports uniform shirts. The manager wears a suit and holds a large trophy. This image was published in the July-August-September 1944 issue of the company newsletter "The Keel Block" under the caption "Ballteam of M.S.B.Co." Although not specifically named, this team was probably "The Riggers," the team that won the company championship in 1944. Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company had two softball leagues, the American and the National, comprised entirely of its own shipyard employees. There were six teams in each league, with most teams representing specific departments within the company. The company furnished equipment, umpires, and "supervision."
