Benke produced a color postcard of the Southside High School, First Ward, which was erected in 1871. It was called the Lincoln Elementary School from 1910 until 1924 when the new Lincoln High School was built. In 1924 it was renamed Roosevelt School. The school closed in the spring of 1937 and the building was used for various purposes until it was razed in 1954. The land was used for a neighborhood park until the former Manitowoc Public Library was built there in 1966. This was located at the corner of Hamilton and South Eighth Streets.
