Dear Dr. Leopold,

I am willins to serve on the "index" committee,
but pleasre do not m ike me chairman. I already have too
many committments and must conserve my time.

Wýhen editor of E-COLOGY, I prepared very careful
indices myself. It is a big job. The botanical articles
were nrepared by Fuller At that time, a ndI think we had
different concepts of indexing. At no time, however, did
we everx receive praise or blame for the indexes from any
reader.

                             Sincerely yours,
