"Ding" was noticed in the Des Moines paper by Adam Brown Jr., Gordon
Bailey, 
Gillis Tidsbury and a few of the local sportsmen who thought that it applied
with- 
out much exaggeration to the duck shooting season around Portage. They contacted

Al Hochbaum at the Delta Waterfowl Research Station, who in turn secured
the 
cartoon for use in the Daily Graphic.
