India.—India is said to have extensive deposits of bauxite, from which
only a small production has been made as yet; it was less than 10,000 tons
in 1929, and has since declined severely.
Japan.—Japan produces no bauxite but imports crude aluminum for manufacture
in domestic plants. An endeavor is being made to obtain bauxite from Pacific
islands. Imports of aluminum were nearly 12,000 tons in 1929 but since declined
to as little as 2,500 tons in 1931. Larger purchases have recently been made,
so that Japanese stocks are said to amount to 10,000 tons, a year's supply.

AUSTRALIA

Bauxite occurs in Australia, but only small production has occurred, chiefly
from Victoria.
