At the Auchtermuchty Festival, August 1986. Duncan Williamson diddles two tunes, "The Hills of Perth" and "John MacMillan of Barra," and comments on the art of diddling. Diddling is a type of mouth music that employs only vocables (meaningless syllables) and serves as a means of learning and transmitting songs and other music. The performance took place during the Prizewinners' Concert held in the Victoria Hall, Auchtermuchty. Duncan was recognized as a master of this type of musical expression.
Starting in 1966, the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland (TMSA) became an active sponsor of events featuring live performances of Scotland's traditional music and song. Among these were annual musical festivals held at the royal burgh of Auchtermuchty, Fife, in conjunction with festive events organized by the town.
