• Crowds line both sides of Washington Street in Manitowoc, Wisconsin watching a "Welcome Home Veterans Parade" that was held on Saturday, August 17, 1946 as part of festivities associated with the Manitowoc County Fair, then in progress. Led by a saluting soldier, color guard members from various branches of the armed forces march at the head of the parade, followed by several women in uniform and then a band whose members wear white uniforms. One of the flag bearers is a woman. Stretching down the street behind the band is a large contingent of uniformed veterans. In the foreground a photographer photographs the parade using a camera on a large tripod, while another takes a picture of the crowd. Buildings in the immediate background, from right to left, include Weber’s Home Bakery at 816 Washington Street, Jensen’s Ready-to-Wear at 820 Washington, Glander Art Studio at 822 Washington, and in the same building under a separate awning the Book and Gift Shop at 824 Washington. In the far distance, with a water tank on the roof, is the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company at 1512 Washington Street. All World War II veterans and their guests received free admission to the county fair on this Saturday.
