Villagers from around the Nam Ngao River (PC 4352) in Houa Khong Province provide self-help labor for a timber bridge that will be constructed across the river. Here, they are working on a road that will lead from one side of the river to the bridge when it is completed. Before this, vehicles could only cross the river during the dry season when the river was low, not in the rainy season when it swelled higher making vehicular crossing impassable. The villagers include men and some women, nearly all Hmong with the exception of the supervising crew.
