• Eleven men, several carrying lunch pails, stand in line in front of a payroll window at the Outside Machine Department/ Template Department building in the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company shipyards to buy war bonds. Two of the men face the camera, holding war bonds which they have just purchased. This photograph was originally published in the September 1942 issue of "The Keel Block", the company newletter, along with an article encouraging employees to purchase war bonds. The article applauded the Staging Builders of Night Shift No. 2 because everyone in that crew had contributed at least ten percent of his earnings for war bonds, and other crews were challenged to do likewise. The men in this photograph probably are members of that Staging Builders crew.
