This sign bears a French name. In Lao it has been transliterated as "Nyabudin." These small provincial shops were most often owned by non-Lao, usually Chinese. Much of their stock arrived by river barge, some by air. Only a limited portion of their goods were purchased by villagers in these remote provincial centers.
