Brecht is the antithesis of the Viennese satirist Karl Kraus, this article

proposes that both authors share a comparable skepticism toward 
culinary art. A "poetology of eating" demonstrates that in Die

Tage der Menschheit as weil as in the Mahagonny opera a critique of 
real social violence is developed with the help of music. By examining 
the motif of ingesting food in the opera libretto and the 
accompanying writings by Brecht and Weill on music theory, it
