A Yao (Iu Mien) woman displays her newly embroidered cape which contains detailed needlework, applique and silver coins. This elaborate cape is made in the course of the year and worn only at the Yao New Year. The cape represents a baby carrier and is used more for the celebratory occasion than to carry a baby, particularly if the woman does not have a baby to carry.
