Silent black and white film segments document the launching of military vessels and submarines built in Manitowoc, Wisconsin during World War II. Footage filmed at Burger Boat Company shows launches of minesweepers, sub chasers, rescue tugs, rescue craft, and harbor tugs, and the rescue of a man who fell into the river during one launching. Footage filmed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company shows six of twenty-eight Manitowoc-built submarines being side-launched: Icefish (February 20, 1944), Jallao (March 12, 1944), Pompon (August 15, 1942), Guavina (August 29, 1943), Kete (April 9, 1944), and Mero (January 17, 1945). Also shown are views of submarines passing through downtown Manitowoc and the Manitowoc harbor for training and trials in Lake Michigan. These segments have been excerpted from a longer compilation of film footage from Wisconsin Maritime Museum collections titled "Manitowoc's World War Effort." Time: approximately 6 1/2 minutes.
