• Attributed to the Salem pottery during Heinrich Schaffner’s tenure as master. Heinrich Schaffner made elaborate flowerpots, some of which are visible in an 1882 photograph of the pottery at Salem (see Michael O. Hartley, “Salem Pottery after 1834: Heinrich Schaffner and Daniel Krause,” in Ceramics in America, edited by Robert Hunter and Luke Beckerdite [Lebanon, N.H.: University Press of New England for the Chipstone Foundation, 2010], p. 143, fig. 6).
