Summary

• Jako Sitzmann was a German soldier in World War I. He spent most of his service in South and East Germany, but was also in France around the time of the Battle of Verdun. He took copious photos on his travels through the Balkans, Romania, Hungary and elsewhere. When he returned, he assembled them in a homemade photo diary with captions. In these photos, we see mostly photographs from North-eastern France during the off hours of the Battle of Verdun in 1916, in addition to a picture of troops posing in front of the Fürstenried Palace outside of Munich.
