Unemployment Rates - Unemployment rates for the local study area are typically
higher than for
Wisconsin. The difference is particularly great for Forest County, where
the unemployment rate has
been close to double the state average for each year from 1982 to 1985 as
shown in Table 2-25.

Average Weekly Wages - In 1984, the lowest average weekly wage for covered
employment (see
following section) in the three county area ($192) was in Forest County,
followed by Langlade County
($235) and Oneida County ($264) (Table 2-26). The industrial categories with
the highest wages in
Forest County were finance, insurance and real estate ($265), wholesale trade
($262), and
transportation, communication and utilities ($256). In Langlade County, the
average weekly wage for
construction was highest ($305), followed by wholesale trade ($283) and manufacturing
($274). In
Oneida County, location of Exxon s Crandon Project Offices, sand and gravel
mining, with an average
weekly wage of $870, showed the highest wage among industrial categories,
followed by
manufacturing ($400), transportation, communication, and utilities ($322)
and wholesale trade ($317).
In all three counties, retail trade and services commanded among the lowest
average weekly wage
rate.
