This silent black and white film segment includes aerial views and street scenes of Custerdale, a $1.4 million government housing project built in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1941 to provide temporary homes for shipyard workers and others engaged in defense work in Manitowoc. The aerial footage was shot in October 1941, just before the first homes were occupied. The street scenes were probably also filmed late in 1941. This segment has been excerpted from a longer compilation of film footage from Wisconsin Maritime Museum collections titled "Manitowoc's World War Effort." Time: approximately 1 minute.
