• Members of the Manitowoc Police Department mark the retirement of officer William Diegel at 4:00 p.m. on June 30, 1942. Diegel, who was in charge of the police ambulance service, was retiring at the end of the day shift after 22 years of service on the force. He is in the front row, on the right, shaking hands with an unidentified man wearing a vest. The man on the left in the front row is probably Police Chief James J. Kuplic.
