EBL: Ebook Library

NOTE: On June 7, 2017, EBL content was moved to a new platform called ProQuest Ebook Central. Bookmarked URLs from EBL will now automatically redirect to ProQuest Ebook Central. The EBL platform is no longer available to UW-Madison users.
The EBL platform provides full-text searching of thousands of ebooks from multiple academic publishers. The topics cover a broad range of scholarly disciplines. The EBL platform allows searching by full text, title, author, subjects, publication dates, and more. Individual titles on the EBL platform are also listed in the library catalog. (Updates: Titles in the patron driven acquisition program are updated monthly. Individual titles are added to the collection when they are purchased.)

Access Policy

UW Madison students/staff may login with NetID from anywhere for full access. Guests who are on-campus may use EBL via "Guest and Special Borrower", but can't save any notes or bookmarks.

EBL ebooks can be read online in a browser or downloaded temporarily to a device with a DRM reader.

Printing from EBL is restricted to approximately 20% of the total pages of the ebook, per user.

There are built-in options for large text format. EBL offers a built-in Read Aloud but this does not seem to be compatible with JAWS. Books downloaded and accessed through Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 can be read with JAWS, NVDA (open source) and Apple VoiceOver.

Copying and pasting is restricted to approximately 5% of the total pages of the ebook, per user.
