DescriptionThis searchable archive is comprised of 50 newspapers originating in England, Scotland and Ireland. This 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection provides the serious researcher with the most comprehensive range of national and regional newspapers in Victorian Britain ever made available in a digital collection. This database is highly illustrated with examples of early photography and also includes essays and contextual material from the British Library. The papers themselves have been selected by an editorial board from the British Library whose purpose was to provide a broad, yet detailed view of British life and culture in the 19th century: business, sports, politics, entertainment, and the arts. The collection is made up of daily and weekly publications and reflects Britain's growing role as a superpower in the 19th century world.
